The Lupin Co Lupin Flakes originate from Australian Sweet Lupin (ASL) seed (Lupinus Angustifolius) and are a Legume selected specifically for the low alkaloids (low bitterness/bean/green flavour). Approx 95% of all sweet lupin is grown in Australia and of this over 85% is grown in Western Australia (WA).
Classic breeding comes from Mediterranean varieties which were introduced to WA during the early 1960’s. Our lupins are harvested from the above-ground pods formed on the plant, cleaned and sized on farm, followed by careful removal of the outer husk (lupin hull) which is mainly hemi-cellulose fibre.
Then follows a triple colour analysis to make sure we have only the beautiful golden lupin endosperm. A multiple dry size reduction process then follows with the final step being to produce delicate and versatile flakes. The process is all done at a temperature not exceeding 36C, measured throughout the process by laser thermometers.
Lupin Flakes pack a seriously tasty powerful punch. Lupin Flakes have high sources of combined protein and fibre, this Aussie-grown little legume is gluten free, low GI and only 4% carbs. Plus they’re rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron. Lupin incredible!

Amazing products – lowest carb lupins available! The flour is great to integrate into baking to help boost the nutritional value of the flours used. This past week I made lupin tortilla chips, which are super easy and have amazing flavor. I use the lupin flakes as a side dish/ starch substitute or use it to crumb meats such as salmon or chicken.

I was dubious as to how fast these would become tender. I went from the pack to a fully made (and delicious) dip in 10minutes. Ive also made a high protein lupin based tofu! They’re Fantastic and have contributed greatly to my weight loss succces!

Greetings Robert – thanks for sharing your experience with our Lupin Flakes. The Dip is certainly a popular option for the flakes as it is so easy to make. Using the flakes for Tofu just about puts you in the ‘chef’ category – :-). Very pleased to hear the Flakes have helped with your diet. All the best – David

Hi Julia – certainly working on having the flakes ranged along with the other products in Perth. Perhaps try Health Food Stores and Independent/IGA’s. Won’t be too long and lupin products will be all over Australia – cheers – David

These lupin flakes are a revelation. Crumb anything in them. The crust is so crunchy and nice. My kids love the flakes more than breadcrumbs. More people need to learn about lupin! Especially for people who have gluten intolerances or are on keto diets.
